ive been looking at baby names, not sure if im pregnant or not but its something i like to do to keep my positive. well i need a name for a girl that start with an "M". its a family tradition on my moms side. im Miranda, my mom is Marsha, my grandma was Marlys my great grandma was Marvel and my great great grandma was Mabel. they have all passed away. i would love to name my baby girl after my grandma Marlys but i really do not like the name. so these are what i picked Malaya or Maleah or do u like it spelled better like Maliyah? also need a middle name that is a J, was thinking Josie after my grandma on my dads side who has also passed away. any suggestions you have id appreciate it!

Reply:Malaya is the old name for Malaysia (where I'm from), a country in South East Asia. So, naming your kid Malaya here, is humongous no-no.
I like the name Maliyah (spelt so, compared to Maleah). However, Maliyah Josie or Maliyah Josephine or Maliyah Joselyn doesn't really flow well together (I'm just guessing Josie stands for either of those names).
Maybe Maliyah Justine? Or Maliyah Jasmine?

Which baby name is better?
Ok im 37 weeks pregnant and my due date is 3 weeks away. Im stuck between two names. Dorian and Lamar. Lamar is my boyfriends name so the baby will be a Jr and Dorian I got from my grandmother. Her name was Dorisette aka Doris. What do you guys think? please help me i don't want to have my son and he doesn't have a name.
oh if his name is Lamar it will be Lamar Butler Jr and if its Dorian Im not sure if im going to use my last name (Beckett) or y boyfriends last name (Butler). thanks again guys.

I am having a girl. I have always loved Loretta Lynn. I am thinking of naming my daughter Loretta after my favorite singer. (she is an older county singer) my family and I have been to a numerous amount of her concerts and I really love that name. Do you think its a good name? Heres the short of it, my husband and I are ttc baby #2 if its a girl I'd like to call her Addison Lynn however my sister in law is pissed because she plans on trying to have kids in 2 years and if she has a boy she wants to name him atticus..so if we both did that there names in short would be Addi and Atti... However, I really like the name Addison. If I have a girl should I just name her Addison and the heck with the SIL? I think Addi or Atti whichever way spelled is a girl name anyhow? Baby Name Nevaeh?
I am doing some research into 'peculiar' baby names and the name Nevaeh has popped up to be quite contentious.
I just wondered why this name is so controversial? Yes we all know that it's Heaven spelt backwards but infact the name doesn't even mean Heaven.
Whilst doing some research I found that the name has been associated with butterflies and snow.
My question to you is, why is the name hated so much? Lol. I have heard thousands of names that sound much worse than Nevaeh and yet there is no mention of these names.
Personally, yes Nevaeh is not a great name but it wouldn't be the end of the world to be named that.
Can anyone tell me their personal opinion of why they loathe it?

It's so common. A lot of younger mothers choose it because they think it's "original", yet there were 271 little girls born last year with the name Nevaeh.
And it does sound a little bit ghetto...I can't argue with that.

There are a number of reasons people are averse to Nevaeh.
1. It's a recently-created "name" with absolutely no history of usage or actual etymology and meaning beyond the stereotypical "Heaven spelled backwards" byline.
2. That "meaning" in and of itself is actually considered quite negative by many, especially those who ARE religious and view the natural opposite of Heaven to be Hell, making this seem an obviously anti-religious "name," regardless of the parents' intent. You can say "it still means Heaven" all you want -- "you" in the general sense, of course ;) -- but the simple fact is that throughout history, doing or displaying a religious icon backwards or in reverse is known to indicate the exact opposite. Ever heard of the upside-down cross used in various Pagan rituals of lore? Not a good thing. LOL
3. Many simply tend to shy away from randomly-trendy, overused names that appear out of nowhere and suddenly become the next big thing. The bandwagon mentality, in other words. And that certainly applies here, since Nevaeh joined the top 1000 most commonly-given names at a whopping 266 just a few years ago, and is already in the top FIFTY and steadily rising! Add in the fact that most using or suggesting it still think it "unique," and it's fairly obvious that this is a trend -- already overused and just as quickly dated.
Just about everything someone with a modicum of class might try to AVOID in a name. Pure and simple. ;)
Also, given the name's recently-created nature, and the fact that most using it incorrectly assume it somehow unusual, there is no actual, "proper" pronunciation. Many say ne-VAY-uh. Others, simply ne-VAY or nuh-VEE. More still assume it NIV-ee-a ... like the skincare line. LOL Quite honestly, any random letter jumble that doesn't even have an obvious pronunciation simply doesn't appeal in my book. Not even a little bit. ;)
So again, trashy, lower-class, overused (by people thinking it unusual), contrived, possibly-negative (but used by those falsely thinking it wonderfully positive LOL), etc. Nothing redeeming about it.

Just wanted to add per one of the first comments, you're right on about Nevaeh being a commonly-given name, but there were actually 5,814 little "Nevaehs" born in 2006 ... and 257 "Neveahs" (Heaven MISspelled backwards ROFL)! Just thought the actual numbers would help, since it was far more than roughly 300. ;)

Plus, you're right. It doesn't mean 'heaven'. When you do something backwards, especially religious things, you're doing the opposite of the original meaning. So, saying 'heaven' backwards incites 'the opposite of heaven', meaning, of course, hell. People who use the name and say it's so sweet just sound so trashy and ignorant. They don't know they're naming their daughter 'hell'!
It's become extremely common. It went from not in the top 1000 to the 200's in one year, and now it's in the top 50, and unfortunately, probably going up. Since it hit the top so quickly, it's very likely that it's going to be very trendy, and quickly dated, like Brittany and Linda are now.
Also, I can't stand that EVERY single person I hear mention the name think they're so clever when they come up with it. And they call it 'unique' and 'different'. News flash: if the name's in the top 50, it's not unique. It's common and trendy. There's nothing wrong with using a common name, but at least realise it and acknowledge it!

It was not choosen for the backwards Heaven, but for how pretty it sounds. She is White/Spanish. Her name fits her perfectly, we call her Vaeh (Vay-ya). I don't know why people are so against it. My sister was 25 when she had her %26amp; we named her together (I was 24 when she was born). Get over it. Really.

Can anyone tell me their personal opinion of why they loathe it?
Baby Name Nevaeh?
It's so common. A lot of younger mothers choose it because they think it's "original", yet there were 271 little girls born last year with the name Nevaeh.
And it does sound a little bit ghetto...I can't argue with that.

I know so many moms who though it was a brilliant idea to name their daughter that only because of the heaven thing. Be more creative.....please

There are a number of reasons people are averse to Nevaeh.
1. It's a recently-created "name" with absolutely no history of usage or actual etymology and meaning beyond the stereotypical "Heaven spelled backwards" byline.
2. That "meaning" in and of itself is actually considered quite negative by many, especially those who ARE religious and view the natural opposite of Heaven to be Hell, making this seem an obviously anti-religious "name," regardless of the parents' intent. You can say "it still means Heaven" all you want -- "you" in the general sense, of course ;) -- but the simple fact is that throughout history, doing or displaying a religious icon backwards or in reverse is known to indicate the exact opposite. Ever heard of the upside-down cross used in various Pagan rituals of lore? Not a good thing. LOL
3. Many simply tend to shy away from randomly-trendy, overused names that appear out of nowhere and suddenly become the next big thing. The bandwagon mentality, in other words. And that certainly applies here, since Nevaeh joined the top 1000 most commonly-given names at a whopping 266 just a few years ago, and is already in the top FIFTY and steadily rising! Add in the fact that most using or suggesting it still think it "unique," and it's fairly obvious that this is a trend -- already overused and just as quickly dated.
Just about everything someone with a modicum of class might try to AVOID in a name. Pure and simple. ;)
Also, given the name's recently-created nature, and the fact that most using it incorrectly assume it somehow unusual, there is no actual, "proper" pronunciation. Many say ne-VAY-uh. Others, simply ne-VAY or nuh-VEE. More still assume it NIV-ee-a ... like the skincare line. LOL Quite honestly, any random letter jumble that doesn't even have an obvious pronunciation simply doesn't appeal in my book. Not even a little bit. ;)
So again, trashy, lower-class, overused (by people thinking it unusual), contrived, possibly-negative (but used by those falsely thinking it wonderfully positive LOL), etc. Nothing redeeming about it.

Just wanted to add per one of the first comments, you're right on about Nevaeh being a commonly-given name, but there were actually 5,814 little "Nevaehs" born in 2006 ... and 257 "Neveahs" (Heaven MISspelled backwards ROFL)! Just thought the actual numbers would help, since it was far more than roughly 300. ;)

Nevaeh is not typically an "accepted" conventional name in US society.
Accepted by the Slavic people for butterfly..If your not of Russian or Polish decent why would you ? Most foreigners come to the USA an acclimate to our american ways and will name their children conventional Anglo names .

So many knocked-up 16-year-olds have used it that it's destroyed ANY respectability the name might have once had (which wouldn't have been a lot).

Plus, you're right. It doesn't mean 'heaven'. When you do something backwards, especially religious things, you're doing the opposite of the original meaning. So, saying 'heaven' backwards incites 'the opposite of heaven', meaning, of course, hell. People who use the name and say it's so sweet just sound so trashy and ignorant. They don't know they're naming their daughter 'hell'!
It's become extremely common. It went from not in the top 1000 to the 200's in one year, and now it's in the top 50, and unfortunately, probably going up. Since it hit the top so quickly, it's very likely that it's going to be very trendy, and quickly dated, like Brittany and Linda are now.
Also, I can't stand that EVERY single person I hear mention the name think they're so clever when they come up with it. And they call it 'unique' and 'different'. News flash: if the name's in the top 50, it's not unique. It's common and trendy. There's nothing wrong with using a common name, but at least realise it and acknowledge it!

Reply:I named my niece Nevaeh Migdalhia. It is a beautiful name. She is 5 years old now, %26amp; the only Nevaeh in her class. It was not choosen for the backwards Heaven, but for how pretty it sounds. She is White/Spanish. Her name fits her perfectly, we call her Vaeh (Vay-ya). I don't know why people are so against it. My sister was 25 when she had her %26amp; we named her together (I was 24 when she was born). Get over it. Really.

To the poster who went on about "spelt".. it's perfectly acceptable in most other English speaking countries to mean "spelled". Spelled is American-English.
Reply:I like that name Nevaeh. I never knew it was controversial (and to other people who reads this, NO it's not a GHETTO name it's only heaven spelled backwards). Heaven can be a nice name for a girl too.

I think people should mind there on and let people name the babies what they want.Sure if you post it on here people will either criticize you or praise you for the name you choose,but in the end it is the parents choice on the name of there baby.As I said I love the name Neveah and I am not ashamed to say it.
