Baby name conundrum - have you been here? What would you do?

OK - Let's pretend that you and your SO are expecting a baby... and SO is really set on a particular name (and the name is not unreasonable, and there is a very good explanation for wanting it...)

Now, even if the name is something that you weren't fond of, would you be willing to use it?

If yes - How so? (first, middle, second middle, variation of the name or name with similar meaning, etc.)

Baby name conundrum - have you been here? What would you do?
Yes - if he really wanted it I would let him pick it out.

My husband loves the name Arthur: my first reaction was "Oh no!". It sounded very old-fashioned and King Arthur seemed to loom over it like a great shadow.

But then I thought about it some more, couldn't really see anything against it, and figured that with the current interest in fantasy and mythology, it's probably due for a revival.

I just can't think of a middle name to go with it.

Reply:There are millions of name possibilities so I'd only go with one we both could agree on.

Unless there was a family tradition that is very important to him, then I would compromise. For example it's been a tradition in my dad's family for generations that the son gets his father's first name as his middle name. I wouldn't want to break with a tradition like that.
Reply:it depends on what it is...

if it was something really out there and I hated it I would probably put up a fight

if its something that wasnt horrible but I wasnt fond of it- middle name

if it was a nice name but just not my style and could grow on me with time- first name
Reply:I believe the mother should have the biggest say so in what to name her child. If you have doubts about the name, then no, don't use it and pick one that you like. If your other really loves you then they'll except it.
Reply:I wouldn't use any name I didn't love.. I'm a tad OCD about things like that ;)
Reply:If he really wanted too.
Reply:middle name
Reply:I would find a variation that would suit both our wants.
Reply:Nope. It has to be a name we dig!
